A refugee situation on the stage
Drozdová, Monika ; Spalová, Barbora (advisor) ; Pergl, David (referee)
This bachelor's thesis is mainly concerned with exploring the narrative of Ukrainian migration in the environment of documentary theatre. For this purpose, the method of ethnographic observation and narrative analysis of a script of a documentary production created by refugees (both male and female) from Ukraine is chosen. Through documentary theatre, the real stories of refugees are communicated. Therefore, documentary theatre is here only a terrain in which social actors create a narrative. In her narrative analysis, the author draws on the work of Paul Ricoeur. The aim of this thesis is, among other things, to answer the question of how the theatrical environment and tools have influenced the form of the narrative and the way it is told. The resulting narrative is thus the collective product of a creative group. It carries the story of a refugee's journey from Ukraine to the Czech Republic and their life in the new world. The narrators are primarily the director and untrained actors from the ranks of the refugees, and listeners are the audience representing the spectators. The form of the narration is influenced by the methods of documentary theatre and stage theatre elements, which have partly influenced the way the narration is told.

Then there is illustrated the work of one German group which is dealing with the method of documentary theatre. As a following topic you can find the work of one Czech group which is using the laboratory approach in theatre. Thanks this approach their work is still on the edge between theatre, research and performance. At the end I listed my tree projects in which we used the method of devising theatre. I am reflecting the process of preparation as well as the process of creating, its result and of course the placement of the stage designer.

Součková, Kateřina ; ETLÍK, Jaroslav (advisor) ; CÍSAŘ, Jan (referee)
Master thesis Documentary theatre, documentary and theatre deals with condracition contained in a term "documentary theatre". It examines, how is the function of "documentary" influenced by being part of a dramatic piece, which is as a piece of art essencially artificiel and based on a duality of original and sign. It investigates documentary theatre based on so called "experts of the everyday", which replaces a professional actor by a witnesses, personally related with a documented reality. This theatre by its changement of a key component of theatre brings a princip of "staging reality" to its certain peak. In the first part of this thesis we characterise a field of examinated topic and we confront it with a related branches (like a realism, a documentary film and an oral history), which helps us to characterise it thourgh a diversity of different perspectives. In its second part we analyse two contemporary czech documentary performances dealing with "experts": Vadí/nevadí of Jana Svobodová and 4. svět of Tereza Durdilová. In its third part we explore our topic from the point of view of czech theory of theatre, represented in this work by Otakar Zich, Jan Císař, Ivo Osolsobě and Jaroslav Etlík, focusing on the problematic of reception of sign and original on a theatre scene.

Burianová, Zuzana ; KUDLÁČKOVÁ, Jana (advisor) ; SCHEJBAL, Milan (referee)
The bachelor's thesis summarizes various views on documentary theatre within the theatre praxis. It cites current definitions of such practice and discusses the extent to which it is topical. The thesis is based partly on film theory, gives examples of theatre productions which are founded on documentary material and also refers to examples from the history of theatre. Among the notions to which it refers are the Living newspapers, postdramatic theatre or the Verbatim method. In its second part, the thesis reflects on the process of realization of a documentary task assigned to the author in the second year of study. It assesses the outcome critically and engages with the problems that arose in the course of the work and relates them to documentary theatre. In the final part, the thesis evaluates the overall beneficence of the assignment for the author's studies and develops an argument presenting the advantages and disadvantages of documentary practice as a basis for theatre production in contemporary social context.
